Spiritually enriching x100, and I'm a cradle Catholic. Thanks to both of you!

I was a protestant for over 30 yrs and my grand-father was a Assembly of God Pastor. Changed to Orthodox in the last yr because I needed a Church that went deeper into the faith. I faced a life of suffering, which included the death of many who were close to me, all while my protestant church focused on building churches, preached receiving gifts and blessings, and the pastor was too busy. They had coffee shops, rock bands, while the young women dressed provocatively. With all this I took an assessment of the Body of Christ, so I needed a change. I found the traditions and teachings I needed in the Orthodox Church, especially those of long-suffering.

As a catholic (not a cradle catholic, i processed from atheism to southern baptism, then to agnosticism and finally to roman catholicism), a big sticking point that i had as a protestant when i hated the catholics is "why do you need to confess before a man and not before God?" Well, im gonna put it simply just to chill some people out as well as inform others, we take this from James 5:16 "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." We confess our sins to God directly, but also to one another in the church. While this would be embarassing to do it to a random stranger or to most anyone in our congregation, we confess before a priest as a way of fulfilling this request to do so before another, and to recieve prayer as well as absolution from someone who is acting on behalf of the Church Father who has appointed him. Anyways, thats all for today. Im not a father but im Jordan. God bless.

Just found your channel, beautifully explained. The new covenant is definitely way more inclusive to a point that we are now brothers with Christ Jesus, and God is our father, as the, Lord’s Prayer starts “ our father”. You add that in the Old Testament they only address God as father 15 times vs 165 times in the New Testament. Mind blown brother, love the delivery of the message!

re: 27:00 - Except your theology is completely different from all historic, apostolic churches, so you can't technically make that claim. I know in Protestantism the idea is that each denomination more or less believes that it has reconstructed the original, apostolic faith by its reading of the Holy Scriptures, but that is pure conjecture. Objectively speaking, your church started when people began publicly proclaiming the statement of faith that you hold to; a statement of faith which fundamentally departs from what every historic, apostolic church believes about some pretty fundamental things (like Baptism and the Eucharist).

I came to Orthodoxy from a Confessional Lutheran background because Orthodoxy was more by the book Lutheran than actual Lutheran Churches. I also wanted the fullness of the faith, and grew very tired of being my own pope or endlessly debating and reinventing the wheel that Holy Tradition has had figured out the whole time (as organic of a process as that may be). Also, the more you study Second Temple Judaisms, the more you begin to realize that Orthodoxy is the actual true and only successor of that religion, and everyone else has changed and become something new (and that attempted reconstructions in something like the Hebrew Roots movement are even further off base than Protestantism's attempts). People are also looking for something that is stable and unchanging, especially in today's climate, not to mention more substance to their worship. So, considering that the Divine Liturgy is the Book of Revelation in real time as the heavenly liturgy and kingdom become manifest in our midst, and has remain relatively stable for all of history, it's plain to see the attraction.

I have loved becoming Anglican after growing up Presbyterian USA. I truly believe that God led me to my church, which is ACNA, and it feels like a beautiful gift I’ve been given.

Raised evangelical non denominational…I am exploring Catholicism for two reasons- first, to build unity and second, I feel like I missed learning reverence in my relationship with God.

Vatican II did so much damage to the church and caused so much conflict within Catholics even to today. Thank our Lord I found an FSSP church that practices the Latin Mass daily, with Gregorian choir and pre-Vatican II catechism.

my view on Unitarian Universalists is they are not Christians, nor are they even a Church. We get the word Church from the Greek word Ekklesia which means called out. These people are not called out. They are the exact representation of folks who are in the world and don't go to Church at all. This is why atheist feel comfortable in their organizations

What turned me off Protestantism was their utter obsession with eschatology and dispensationalism.

Jews say the similar thing, many of volumns of oral interpretation of Torah in Talmud Is consider more important than the Torah for some Jews. Problem is that one Famous rabbi interpreters the text different than the another famous historical rabbi. Jesus criticized man made tradition when its supersedes Jesus teachings.

Years ago, Matt, your videos were my first introduction to orthodoxy, tucked them in the back of my head, I am now a catechized and baptized member of the Orthodox Church, and it all started with the seed that was planted through the heart of ecumenism I found in your videos. This is ridiculous, it’s not a question if any of these people existed, it the supernatural claims for jesus that are in question, and only jesus in person in a modern-day setting can remove any doubt.

Deut 4:2, Deut 12, prov 30, rev 22:18-19 says do not add or take away from the word of God. Otherwise they will be punished. If other sources in align with the Bible then it’s ok but If other sources condicts the scripture, then the inspiration is not from God. One must reject any sources contradicts what is clear in the Bible.

2 Timothy said Jesus is only mediator. Angels protects us also advocate for us Obedience to God but we do not pray or communicate with them. One’s opinion About some text should not become an absolute doctrine, when there is clear Text says there is no other mediator, especially if saints are dead.

True Mixed with false teachings always more deceptive. The 7 churches in the revealation Gives us some clues, there are weaker and smaller churches got it right, per Jesus.

It was impossible for Martin Luther to stay in the Catholic Church because Pope wanted to kill him. Luther did not want to leave the church. Luther wanted Pope to correct what was the exploitation by the church. To say one must stay in the “Visible church” after the fact is unreasonable assessment.

What lead me to researching liberalism and Conservative Christianity Was I used to play in a Christian rock band. When I was told it's too judgmental to Promote God In The Music and in the band, I left the band and begun researching.

As a Catholic, I echo most of the comments that you are super respectful and willing to learn. The problem with this guy’s theology. All his theological answers always started with “well, I believe”. With all due respect, you can’t just have a theology and church just based on the pastors opinion. I hope you interview Trent horn, Tim staples, or Scott Hahn. God Bless your journey.

I haven't watched your videos in the order you released them, but I could honestly tell which ones were older and which ones were newer based on how you interacted with the "clergy" and your attire. It's very evident that this journey you went on was healthy and helped you get a deep respect and empathy for your diverse Christian landscape. We all need to go on that journey. The curtain is torn. The Pascha season shows this in the symbols of the open altar after the resurrection. I love your endeavor.

We see the American Christian landscape theologically as Protestant vs Catholic/Orthodox. I suspect the reality is that Catholics and Orthodox are just another denomination just as prone to fluidity as all the rest.

This priest talks a good talk, but to adore a photo/painting of a long dead "Saint" is worshipping a graven image! That's against the teachings of Jesus!
